Vision Casting for Men's Fellowship Leaders¶
"And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
— 2 Timothy 2:2
Introduction¶
First and foremost, thank you for your willingness to serve as a Men's Fellowship Leader.
Leadership is not simply about facilitating a weekly discussion or organizing a small group. It is a calling to shepherd God's people, encourage spiritual growth, and intentionally help others become faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
As we launch the Foundations of Discipleship series, we also begin an important shift in emphasis—not simply toward learning more about the Bible, but toward becoming disciples who make disciples.
Our Mission¶
Jesus gave His Church one clear mission:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..."
— Matthew 28:19–20
Notice that Jesus did not command us to:
- Hold meetings
- Organize events
- Conduct Bible studies
These activities are valuable, but they are not the mission.
The mission is to make disciples.
Everything we do in the Men's Fellowship should ultimately support this mission.
Our Vision¶
We desire to see every man continually growing toward spiritual maturity until he is able to help another man follow Christ.
Our vision can be summarized as:
Healthy disciples become disciple-makers.
Healthy disciple-makers help develop future leaders.
Why "Foundations of Discipleship"?¶
Beginning August 8, we will launch the Foundations of Discipleship series.
This is more than another Bible study.
The series is intended to establish a common biblical foundation for every man in our fellowship by exploring topics such as:
- Following Jesus
- Spiritual disciplines
- Identity in Christ
- Prayer
- God's Word
- Christian community
- Serving others
- Sharing the Gospel
- Making disciples
Our goal is not simply that participants complete a curriculum.
Our goal is that they begin a lifelong journey of following Jesus.
Discipleship Happens in Relationships¶
One of the most important lessons we have learned is this:
People are rarely transformed through information alone.
Transformation happens as biblical truth is lived out within authentic Christian relationships.
Jesus spent far more time walking with His disciples than teaching them in formal settings.
He ate with them.
He traveled with them.
He listened to them.
He corrected them.
He encouraged them.
He prayed with them.
Likewise, our ministry should intentionally cultivate relationships where men can encourage one another, pray together, serve together, and grow together.
The Saturday gathering is only the beginning.
The real ministry continues throughout the week.
The Role of a Men's Fellowship Leader¶
As leaders, we are called to:
- Walk closely with Christ.
- Shepherd the men entrusted to us.
- Pray faithfully.
- Build genuine relationships.
- Facilitate meaningful biblical discussions.
- Encourage practical obedience to God's Word.
- Personally invest in making disciples.
- Develop future leaders.
Leadership is not about position.
Leadership is about influence through service and example.
Measuring Success¶
It is easy to measure attendance.
It is much harder—and much more important—to measure transformation.
Instead of asking only:
"How many men came this week?"
We should also ask:
- Who is growing closer to Christ?
- Who has become more faithful in prayer?
- Who is reading and applying Scripture?
- Who is serving others?
- Who is sharing the Gospel?
- Who is beginning to disciple someone else?
Attendance is important.
Transformation is our greater goal.
Every Leader Is a Disciple-Maker¶
One of the new expectations for our leaders is that each leader intentionally invest in at least one other man outside the weekly gathering.
This may involve:
- Meeting for coffee.
- Reading Scripture together.
- Praying together.
- Providing encouragement.
- Helping him obey Christ.
- Walking alongside him through life's challenges.
We should never ask others to make disciples if we are not making disciples ourselves.
Multiplication Is the Goal¶
Our objective is not simply to maintain healthy small groups.
Our objective is to see disciples who eventually become disciple-makers and future leaders.
Paul described this multiplication clearly:
"The things you have heard me say... entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also."
There are four generations represented in this verse:
- Paul
- Timothy
- Faithful men
- Others
This is the pattern we desire to follow.
Walking Together¶
None of us are perfect disciple-makers.
We are all continuing to grow.
As leaders, let us encourage one another, pray for one another, and faithfully serve together as we seek to follow Christ.
May God use this ministry to transform lives, strengthen families, build His Church, and raise up faithful men who will one day disciple others.
