JICF History¶
Our Beginnings¶
JICF was begun on August 27, 1995 by volunteers from Kebayoran Baptist Church (now Jakarta International Baptist Church). It was founded to provide a non-denominational fellowship that was biblically based and culturally relevant.
Early Years¶
- Initially overseen by elders who were businessmen and professionals.
- Speakers included visiting pastors and local members.
- Community groups were emphasized from the start.
Growth¶
- In 1996, JICF moved to the Kemang Hotel to demonstrate commitment to diversity, eventually filling the ballroom.
- In 1998, services relocated to Graha Niaga, where JICF continues to meet.
Formal Recognition¶
- In 2002, JICF hired its first full-time elder to provide consistent teaching.
- Officially recognized as a church under the name Gereja Jakarta International Christian Fellowship.
- Established Yayasan International Christian Fellowship to provide residence and work permits for expatriates serving in international churches across Indonesia.
JICF continues to emphasize community groups, discipleship, and multicultural fellowship as its foundation.
